UNIX User Groups
User groups have been developed all over the world by enthusiasts in the world of information technology. These groups are run on a voluntarily basis and they are made up by individuals, professionals or experts as well as simply users, who share the passion for a certain aspect of technology, there are various such groups all over the world and some of the most popular ones are those having Linux, Microsoft and Unix at their center. Generally speaking, the aim of the user groups is to provide those interested in a specific area with a platform where they can gather, chat and share information as a way of contributing to the development and improvement of their main area of interest. Thus, the UNIX user groups are all gathered around the different aspects of a UNIX-based operative system and their main goal is to promote and spread the use of UNIX. It is common that the groups meat in a formal or informal way, on a regular basis and they come up with strategies in order to meet their goal. The groups are located in different parts of the world and one can contribute by joining a regional team that is closest to them. It is also common that groups meet on the internet or they talk on the phone.
Another aim of these groups is to provide users with support and solutions when it comes to UNIX or UNIX-based operative systems. Their membership is not restricted to professionals or experts and every enthusiast can join and contribute to the groups' goal. The main eligibility criteria is having a strong interest in UNIX and having the desire to contribute to the development, improvement and to the increase in popularity of this type of operative system.
